Blessings abound now for James C. and his loved ones, who just a few months ago were facing homelessness in the midst of a bitter cold Kansas City winter.
Eager to reunite with his longtime girlfriend Laquita of seven years and her newborn son, James moved from Arkansas to Kansas City. The family found shelter in a pay-by-the-week motel and prayed for refuge as the snow and ice storms escalated and their funds depleted. A Good Samaritan who’d offered James a ride to the grocery store referred him to The River church family in Raytown.
“I called the number and left a message saying we needed a ride to the church that Sunday,” said James. “At this point we had been in the motel for six days and had to check out that Monday morning.” The River put James in touch with residence specialists from Crossroads Shelter, and soon he and his family found interim housing through Community LINC. “Community LINC helped us with another blessing, our first house! It feels like it is being built just for us – everything is new!” said James, who is very appreciative to The River for guiding his family to community assistance and a path to self-sufficiency. The family moved into their new home just a few blocks from The River in April. “God blessed us by introducing us to the people who helped us. It’s amazing.”
